One Great Week

It’s around a month before my birthday, and from the past two birthdays, it’s been quite bittersweet. I really don’t know what will happen next but I’m really hoping that everything will be ok.

Come to think of it, it has been a while since I’ve had a good birthday. I think the best birthday that I’ve ever experienced was when I was grade four. There wasn’t any school that day even if it was a weekday since classes were suspended, so in the morning, I was greeted by my entire family to greet me a happy birthday. It is there that they gave me my gifts which were an electric motor k’nex kit and another one that is solar powered. My aunt also gave me a Zoids kit that I had to build, but I like doing that anyway.

We had dinner in a Chinese restaurant somewhere in Binondo, and then went home. After which, led to an early break since the next day didn’t have school as well.

This was by far, the best birthday that I can remember. It was just so simple. No parties, just with my family. Hopefully, the next one would come near to that year.

This is what I wrote approximately a month before but I wasn’t able to post it. And I really can’t explain it. I know that it is still one hell of a stressful week since I still had something to do. First, I have to finish my journal for my practicum, and I have to get my certification from Yoshinoya.

But I thought what the hell. I’ll allow myself to indulge. After all, it is going to be my birthday in a few hours. So I headed out to Marikina to hang out with a girl that I really really liked.

At this point, I already got a new phone and a new lap top. I’m already jumping from wall to wall. I honestly could not think on how it can get any better.

Then I saw her on the McDonald’s ready for a run while I was wearing blue jeans and a red collared shirt. She was kinda complaining why I was wearing red since she was also wearing red. Well, I just replied, “whose birthday is it?” Hahaha!

We then hung out at the Marikina Sports Center. After walking a la around the 400 m oval track, we just sat and talked on the ground and took a few pictures.

It is there when I said something as a joke that she took seriously; I just said that I thought that maybe my friends are in her house waiting to surprise. I swear to God I was just kidding. That led to quite a panic for her for some reason. I would know about why later on as the week progressed. We then went to her house but before we went there, I insisted on buying something for her mom and family since I was a new guest, I just thought it would be a nice gesture to give something to the household. I thought of giving wine, the good wine. However, she said it would be better if I would give some chocolates, so that’s what I got. Still that was one hell of a negotiation and in the end; I got the family some Van Houten Chocolates.

Once we get to their house, I saw that the house is quite small, but cozy. It was finally nice to visit where she lives since I thought that I never thought that I would ever see her house because of the way she talks about it. She says it’s her own personal space and once and for all, she trusts me enough to let me in.

The dinner was a simple grilled pork belly accompanied by grilled whole tomatoes with rice. In her dwelling place, we had a nice quiet dinner, and it was dim lit so it felt even more intimate.

After dinner, I got to spend time with her on their garden listening to some tunes such as Walking after You and Naive. And while doing that, we were just watching Joaquin (if that’s the correct spelling) the beagle run around the place. We just talk under the moon and stars and I just thought that it was the right time to say it so I asked her.

She couldn’t answer me. Hence, I just let it be since I know that she didn’t want it. I can be stubborn like this. However, I heard that yes. My eyes quickly lit up and looked at her and smiled.

That made my night and my birthday which was already great, perfect.

I know you may not be reading this anymore, Mica. Yes, I’m mentioning your name here. Thank you for what you did. This is just the first part of this series. I’ll never ever forget it. Period.
